How OUR beer is brewed – the quick easy explanation!
There are 4 main steps to the brewing process which are as follows:
1. Malting
Malt, the main ingredient in beer, is created by steeping barley in water until it starts to germinate. When rootlets start to appear, germination is stopped by kilning the green malt. This dries the malt and generates colour and distinctive malt flavours.
2. Wort Production
The malt is milled to produce 'grist' which is mashed in hot water to convert the malt starch to sugars. The sugary worth is run off into the copper where the hops are added the mixture is boiled, releasing hop bitterness to produce 'bitter wort'.
3. Cooling and Fermentation
The boiled wort is cooled aerated and pumped into fermenting vessels where yeast is added. The yeast feeds on the sugars and nutrients from the malt to produce carbon dioxide and alcohol.
4. Filtration
Following the removal of the spent yeast, the beer is conditioned in the brewery, filtered, pasteurised and finally kegged
One half pint of Haus bräu equates to one unit of alcohol and approx. 98 calories.
We ask you to enjoy our beer but more importantly we ask you to drink sensibly. Drinking beer does not make you live longer. Drinking heavily and binge drinking will cause health problems so please enjoy and drink moderately.
